Haha, you sound like me! From Rochester, friends with all sorts of diverse people, and confused by the negative reviews. |
Major: Biology (This Major's Salary over time)
Wow, I can't believe all of the negative comments. Here's my much more positive perspective. I lived in Hinman, and had a very different experience regarding diversity than what many on this site are suggesting. In my freshman year suite there were 2 chinese guys, a vietnamese guy, an indian, a korean, and me (standard issue white dude). The next year we had a gay fellow, a jewish guy, a chinese guy, an african american guy and a korean guy… and we all lived next door to a bunch of straight edge vegans. I got involved in research with the biology department in my freshman year. Perhaps as a consequence, I never felt like "a number" on campus. I routinely was able to have one on one time with faculty members, the large majority of which were really friendly. Having worked at two larger universities since graduating, I would say that Binghamton provides an above average number of opportunities for students to get involved in their departments. But you must take advantage of those opportunities!I'm not even sure if the city of Binghamton has a museum (I'm sure it does) but the campus has a friggin' beautiful nature preserve.Coming from Rochester, the weather at Binghamton didn't bother me. I went cross country skiing up at the Nature Preserve! We had snow ball fights on the way back home from the Belmar! and when it got to be nice out… every body would be out on the quad.
