Individual instruction is highly emphasized; most departments (with the exception of natural sciences and English) are quite small, so most classes beyond the introductory courses are usually conducted seminar-style. However, this does not impact funding; most departments are well stocked with equipment and supplies. Also, participation in academic off-campus programs is encouraged; students can obtain funding relatively easily for participation in summer programs and etc.

The only downside is the social climate. Appleton is a boring place, and so most activities occur in conjunction with the campus. The small student population does not help.
