Ok, so I'm currently a freshman at Emerson (Class of '11), and I was super-excited to come to this school. I always wanted to get out of the ultra-conservative, sports-heavy, macho jock environment that I had come from, I wanted to go to the Northeast, and I had my sights set on a degree in Radio. Emerson was my number one school from a list of about 6 (others being Syracuse, Ithaca, UMaryland, UNorth Carolina, Michigan State, and Northwestern). Its currently December, and I knew early into October of this (my first semester here), that I had to get out. Fast. Why, you ask? Well, let me start the list. First off, I was not an emo/indie loser in high school, so there's one strike against me. Secondly, I like to go out and party, and not sit around in the common room watching indie films on Friday nights. Next, I don't care about Indie Rock and/or Indie Films and/or poetry and/or obscure fiction literature. Also, I love sports. Bad idea. Finally, and possibly most importantly, the people here (for the most part) are extremely pretentious know-it-all hipsters who want to be "counter-culture" and "unique" so much it makes me sick. In a nutshell, I've come to the reaization that this place is the following: Very liberal indie kids who mooch off their upper middle class parents and think that in 30 years they are going to be seen as poetic geniuses in film/literature/theatre, ect…the sad thing is that I didn't see this before I came ($40,000 later)

Hey, I'm a senior in high school still and I'm trying to figure out which colleges I want to go to for film/directing. I really really LOVE film and writing & directing and I want to meet new people who are chill, down-to-earth, friendly and are determined to achieve academic success in college. But I've been reading these reviews and several former Emerson students say the school is full of

snotty, pretentious wannabe hipster kids

who mooch off their parents. Plus a lot have said the classes are not really challenging or worth the price you pay 40,000 for. So, I'm getting really turned off and considering not even wanting to go to Emerson College at all.
I've visited the campus, seen the website and was impressed. The college looked good, had people talking about how great it was and how excellent the film program was. But now I don't know if I want to go.

I was wondering if the majority of the students are not posers who don't work and backstab other students and I wanted to know if the whole atmosphere of Emerson is really as bad as they say. And if the teachers are nice and truly care about the students.
