tulane university is a unique place. I was surprised when I first began attending tulane university. I found that a lot of my professors either pandered to students or were being in the process of "broken in" to the big easy lifestyle. In an English class I took my first year I was amazed by the fact that there was so little respect for politeness and such in the class rooms. I become numbly accustomed to hearing obscenities used at whim in the class room, and thus ultimately couldn't help but loose a touch of respect for the institution its self. In the liberal arts courses you will probably be greeted by those who are either too immature to follow the simple raise your hand to speak rule, or who similarly do not speak in order.

In one course that I signed up for, I was unable to get to class the first few days because I signed up late for the course. the professor of this class didn't tell me that there was a book which we were supposed to be reading so I finally had to figure it out for myself close to the end of the course due to the fact that the "book" may have casually been mentioned once throughout the course of the class.

Professors are almost a little too creative in my opinion and should instead focus their creativity on coming up with beneficial solutions for those attending the course as opposed to creating obscure types of assignments which can be a pain. For example in one course which I've taken we were required to volunteer for 40 hours of community service at organization X.

there are a few beautiful spots on campus but the main arteries of the campus aka sidewalks are poorly thought-out, if your not paying attention your liable to bump into someone walking in the opposite direction, I have attended 4 Universities up to this point and this is a problem unique to tulane.

If everyone I know hadn't sold their soul to a fraternity I would be able to say that the social scene is cool, but most of them have. I've encountered quite a few chicks who kind of leave one with a disgusting overdose of female impropriety in your mouth, but hey one man's trash is another man's treasure I guess.

the only person I've met from another country so far has been my french teacher which kind of surprised me.

New Orleans is really a personal judgement call. I find most New Orleanians to be laid back to the point of aggravating on occasion when for example I'm greeted by shock and awe when ordering more than 1 meal from a fast food establishment, or when say for example you need to get some money from a western union teller but the employees at the store in question lie and say the "machines broke" because, to one's astonishment they are too lazy to work the western union cash register(surprising right). Not to mention the holes in the roads here are eerily similar to the ones I've encountered during my times in Africa. then there was the time that I was downtown getting my Atm card waiting for cab when 2 women mistook me for a male prostitute…yeah, not a good sign. But like I said if that kind of place rows your boat be my guest. that and rental prices which I would say are about $200-250 less than what you would be paying in a highly competitive housing market like Boston..yeah but anyway.

I'm grateful that tulane accepted me even though it could use a taste of the Spanish Inquisition.
