The U was actually my last choice when I was a senior in high school. I was accepted to a number of other private schools with more widely known reputations, but they didn't offer me a financial aid package I could afford while the U's was a sweet deal, better than even my state schools in PA. Most of the students are from downstate PA, NJ, or LI. If you're not used to their attitude, you're likely to not like the school. I ended up feeling the U was time very well spent. The education was good, but some departments' faculty are very out of date (mainly your liberal arts). The Health Sciences, business, and education programs are among the best. The dorms were very nice, esp compared to places where I visited friends at other schools. The campus is hilly, but very compact. There is a bizarre misconception about a crime problem, but I think it's b/c most of the students come from rich, white, sanitized backgrounds in the burbs. I grew up in rural PA without locking our doors or cars, and never once felt unsafe at the U, on campus or off. The bulk of any crime was related to students, either ones from the U or Lackawanna College more often. Parties, you;ll have your pick, better than any school I visited except for SUNY Albany. The faculty are extremely available to help, the class sizes are small, mine were mostly around 20, but had many that were less than 10 too. It was a good undergrad choice for me, especially coming from a small catholic high school.
