First let me share some of the good things:

As an in-state student, OU is a great value. In general, the school has a pretty good reputation, and if you do well, you can probably get into most graduate schools. That being said, you will pay a lot less by going to OU and ultimately achieve the same goal you would by spending a lot more to go to an out of state or private school. Another good thing about OU is that they accept AP & CLEP credit for almost any class. That's nice because you can graduate faster, take less hours during the semester, and test out of classes you think might be too easy or really overcrowded. Overall, for students from Oklahoma, OU is a decent school for a manageable price.

THE BAD:

The town of Norman itself is like being in hell. A lot of the town east of the highway (which is where OU is located) looks really blue collar and run-down. For entertainment people either get drunk at the same 5 bars or drink at someone's house. EVERY aspect of social life at OU revolves around fraternities and sororities. People think they are the shit for getting into one of the top houses, which are well known among the entire OU community. However, the vast majority of these people are from ghetto rural towns in Oklahoma and haven't traveled enough to know that partying at OU isn't that exciting. If you're not interested in greek life, good luck making friends at OU. Most people's first question when they meet you is 'what house are you in?' The people in houses aren't that willing to meet new people outside of their houses because greek life keeps them so busy. Sadly, most of these students aren't very bright.

Pretty much the only social option that doesn't involve greek life is being in a Bible study or going to college worship services at various churches during the week. If you are not Christian you will not like OU. Everyone is either devoutly Christian or pretends to be.

The administration at OU, like at any big university, is ridiculous. It takes forever just to meet with advisors, get into classes, etc. There is a lot of waiting in line and red tape just to do anything.

Parking is a major issue at OU. The weather in Oklahoma can be a bit unpredictable, and if you can't find a close parking spot, you might find yourself walking 1 mile to class in pouring rain or snow. You have to pay for a parking permit, yet the garages are usually full when there are plenty of close faculty spaces that aren't being used.

OU just passed some funding project for this new aquatics center/waterpark that is completely unnecessary. It sounds nice, but how about fixing the parking issue or renovating some of the buildings on the south oval that look like they are on the verge of falling down?

Overall, I have been extremely disappointed with the close-minded students. The only reason I am suffering through OU is because it's dirt cheap and I can get out quickly with a degree. If you actually want to enjoy your college experience, you might want to consider going to a different type of school.

If you love to party, want to spend all of your time with a sorority/fraternity and live in the most boring state in the US, you will LOVE OU.
