Barry University… it feels just like high school except you get to live on your own. So I guess you can say it's like boarding school. The education is decent but not worth 32k a year. The administration is HORRIBLE. Residential Life's office has no idea what they're doing. I requested a roommate before orientation started. Well to put a long story short people who made friends at orientation requested each other and of course they got their request while I did not. Res Life said they made a "mistake." Pretty silly if you ask me because I called every week in the Spring to see if I had gotten my requested roommate. Being from the West I was thrown into a totally absurd atmosphere. People on campus do drugs regularly (and in their dorm rooms) and it's not just a few!!! Pretty crazy for a Catholic private school if you ask me. Sex is not a shortage at Barry U. People are not very friendly regardless of how you think they are when you visit the campus. You will get sick of seeing the same people day in and day out. Women in Miami period are stuck up and arrogant and it seems like you have to be loaded with money. Do not let Barry's location trick you. It is in Miami Shores NOT Miami. Big difference. Miami Shores is pretty much the average ghetto. The surrounding area is not attractive in the least. Miami is a great city to experience, however. Clubs are a blast, beach is 10 minutes away on a good day (do not let their statement about it only being 5 miles away attract you), and South Beach has much to offer. It takes a billion hours to get anywhere in Miami though. I am certain Barry accepts all applicants although they say otherwise… You find that internationals are not always friendly so don't let the diversity trick you. There is ONE frat and ONE soriarty. What a joke for a university located in a party city like Miami. Barry does offer good internships though that can help you in the future. If you have a car be ready to be used like no other. People will beg you forever to give them rides to the stupidest places. I found that most people at Barry seem to be from the Northeast or the Caribbean. Supposedly "mad" is the cool thing to say out east. Girls at Barry are your typical rich girls who are stuck up. Miami seems to be a monetary place where having money means everything. If you are looking to go to college in Miami I would look at UM or FIU. UM is located in a much better setting. The campus is pretty nice but the dorms are probably worst living conditions in the ghetto of Miami Shores. Ants will roam your desk and bed in abundance. People will shit in the showers, puke all over the floor, break windows and mirrors, and it won't bother them at all! Barry's cleanup crew does not do a very good job. It's hard to find a clean toilet to do your business, and when you're in a rush it's very inconvenient. Security is a joke! It might be a closed campus but it only uses security at night. So anyone from the ghetto can come on campus during the middle of the day and have no problems. White people feel discriminated against at Barry U. I believe this is mostly due to the Caribbean students. I was also sick of "rappers" promoting themselves by putting their stickers on cars. I can't tell you how much I wanted to strangle the rapper than to listen to his lame CD. Cafeteria food is the worst cafeteria food I've ever had in my life and I've eaten at several colleges trust me. SOME people make Barry U a good experience while others you wonder hwo there could be such people in this world. If you attend Barry U and stay in the dorms be prepared to stay up till 4 A.M. wake up for an 8 or 9 A.M. class then eat the crappy food, then never be able to concentrate on homework (even in the library), and then repeat everyday. Welcome to Barely University NOT "where you belong."
