What did you expect from Community college? This is the college to help students get back on their feet, improve GPA and transfer to another school or returning adult student to gain education. This is the school with low tuition, 2 yr program, most of the students after receiving diploma transfer to 4 yr school. If you happen to be at the community college because you screwed up in the HS or were too lazy to do research and admission process to 4 yr school, stop complaining, work towards hight GPA and transfer to the university. |
In response to the above comment first of all I did not “screw up” in high school; I graduated with a 4.0 GPA. I did research about colleges, but I as I mentioned above I made the self admittedly stupid mistake of not looking up application due dates. I gave an honest assessment of what I think of and have seen at Westchester Community College, and it still stands, aside from a few people and a handful of professors the place is well, miserable. Also I do not understand if people are trying to better themselves, and English is their first language, why they cannot speak like someone with a brain cell count over 3. Some of them literally sleep during class, or have they cell phones on, without even switching them to vibrate. These are things that would get you booted out of a movie theatre let alone in the middle of class. People who come to this site, I imagine want an honest, realistic review, not some politically correct overly positive lecture on why it truly is not so bad. As for what I expected, adequacy, I do not think that is too much to ask from any institution, and this is something I feel the W.C.C. does not deliver. |

Major: Undecided (This Major's Salary over time)
Let me start by saying, there a few great people, please note that few is the emphasis of this sentence. The students are for the most part duller than a worn out chisel. Most are disrespectful, crude, and speak a version of the English language as if to them a rap video is akin to Websters. The night classes are a-lot better, more serious students and the professors seem more at ease. I got in there by looking up everything about college entrances except the deadlines, a mistake I regret very much. The advisors are of no help what so ever, and the bureaucracy of the place is disorganized, at its best. As for my dear fellow students, there are those who are not in some way insane or a stand in for Lennie Small, but will avoid others at all cost, can not blame them myself. It is a community college in a wealthy county, which means for the most part you are going to be knee deep in the lumpenproletariat of the county. The cafeteria staff is friendly, but the food is like what I imagine is served for brunch in a Chinese prison. If you get in, the first thing you need to do, if you have any ambition, is to try and get out.
