I'm an advertising student in the SJMC so being one of the better funded programs in the University I've enjoyed the new labs and software but other programs aren't as lucky. I love the ability to concentrate on copywriting rather than management or art direction. The school doesn't have any diversity which isn't too big of a surprise. Most of the students are from either Illinois, Minnesota, or Iowa so there's a strong "Midwestern" feeling on the campus. The students are pretty bright in general but much of the time I felt unchallenged by the coursework, it's nice at times but my understanding of the topics wasn't challenged as much as I would've liked. The biggest problem I have at Drake is a real lacking the academic advisors, many will admit they don't know exactly what they're doing which means the ones who do are so busy they don't have time to properly help you.One other problem is the location and career resources. Iowa isn't where I want to live after school and it seems Drake has very little ability to help me get a job outside of Iowa or Chicago.
