The strength of Bennington is the academic freedom. The ability to explore what you want and to take it as far as you can is invaluable. The Field Work Term is a terrific time to see what you like and don't like in terms of various jobs, it also helps you learn how to do a job search, interview, and create and polish a resume. I have found the academics to be beyond reproach. Truthfully, my first year I was not so sure about the social scene. I was worried that the student body was too small and the campus too isolated. I have come to love it more and more. I am not really in to parties (though I must say some of the theme parties are really fun and hilarious) and have found myself a part of a group of friends who are fun, interesting and very caring of eachother. My friends at larger schools have either done the same thing (just because you are at a big school it doesn't mean you will necessarily have more friends!) or are envious that I have such good, real, friendships. In terms of the size and location of the school, Field Work Term really helps. Everyone leaves for 7 weeks in the winter and goes to far flung places, from NYC to China, and by the time it is over we are usually really anxious to get back to campus.I have one more year at Bennington and while I am sure I will be ready to move on to the next phase of my life by then, I also know that I will miss it very much! Mostly the people, the professors, the access to so much intellect, but also the incredibly beautiful campus!
