I want to emphasize what I saw someone else had already written and that is that EVERYTHING you hear, EVERY stereotype that has been applied to SMU is TRUE. Okay? So if Greek life, alcohol and playing politics to get what you want isn't your thing, don't come here. Unless you get a really good scholarship which is the one and only reason I bothered. And another thing, I'm not going to complain about the richness of the school. It is what it is and that's fine. But as far as diversity goes and racial/class interaction, yeah that would be an F. I am a minority, I am Asian-American and sometimes I can't help but get the feeling that being Asian hinders some of my potential here. There are kids who will overlook you because you are different. On the other hand, you could argue that this is what "the real world" is like. But really, I have to say, there is definitely more emphasis here on being the cookie-cutter girl/guy than most other university campuses. SMU sells itself well but don't always fall for the ads.If you get the pick between here and UT Austin and you're a person who appreciates diversity, creativity and motivation, go to Austin.
