The College of New Rochelle

I applied as a transfer student and I couldn't even get into College of New Rochelle in my first attempt. Applications to the program are high but you can get in either fall or spring and the nursing classes are offered in the summer as well. There are pple who have graduated in 2 years. They also have a 1 yr accelerated BSN program.

I can only speak for the Nursing Program. It is very challenging. As a matter of fact, they keep changing the curriculum and exam format each semester to make it harder to rely on past students for help. I have had friends fail out from the program. As for me, I got in with a transfer gpa of 3.0. Currently, my nursing gpa is a 3.5 with a semester to go. The lecture/theory classes for each course are usually divided into two sections and sometimes, u might fall into a section that has students that are very competitive and care about themselves and their grades only. Usually for the clinical classes, each section has anywhere from 4 to 8 students. The clinical instructors are much nicer than the faculty. Overall, people are just polite and not overly friendly. So, it might be hard to find someone or a group of people to hang out with on a daily basis.

Faculty has an open door policy. Every teacher's door is usually open. You can talk to anyone u want to talk to. Some of the faculty members are full of themselves and can spend entire class time bragging about how they got their degress from Columbia, Yale etc

There are lots of group and class projects which can be very annoying and frustrating if u're someone who likes to work on ur own or don't like the extra work.

Food is bad and expensive. I commute to the school so I bring my food. Parking is not that much of a problem anymore for commuters. Residents are not allowed to park on campus but can park on side streets.

Maintenance is shady at times. Some bathrooms and some buildings are outdated with a fresh coat of paint on the outside to cover up. But the campus is really beautiful in the spring when all the flowers and tress start blooming. Fall looks good too when the leaves start changing color. Security is excellent. Never had a problem with safety. One time on a Friday, I lost a designer spring jacket, with labels still attached, When I went back on a Monday morning, went to the security booth, Voila! my jacket was there, even left folded the way i had folded it. I couldn't believe my eyes.

Tuition is VERY VERY expensive. Bursar's office is annoying. The staff there are lazy and incompetent. They kept sending me incorrect bills all the time and dropping my classes even when I argued that the bills were incorrect.

Each freshman gets a laptop. As long as u maintain full time attendance and in good academic standing. After graduation from the college, the laptop is transferred to u for $1. If u transfer, u return the laptop.

Job opportunities, well for nurses, abound. I already got 3 job offers from top hospitals even though I have a semester to go.

I would strongly recommend the Nursing program if u're interested and u think u can handle stress effectively.
