Major: Undecided (This Major's Salary over time)
I start Mary Baldwin College this coming August and I honestly can't wait. Mary Baldwin is completely unlike other women's colleges in the South (such as Sweet Briar or Hollins University). During my visit on campus for my VWIL (Virginia Women's Institute for Leadership) interview, everyone I met was approachable and wasn't afraid to return a smile. Then, while walking into the VWIL office, cadets that were in a meeting jumped up out of their seats and ran to the doorway to meet me! Needless to say, I was shocked. Everyone is extremely friendly, and when I mean everyone, I do mean everyone—including the mess hall staff (which, by the way, serves great food and will accomate meals to your liking…within reason). The city of Staunton surrounding the campus is small, but still within driving distance to larger cities, so you can easily go to the mall or the like on the weekends. You need strong legs to navigate this campus, as it is very hilly, so it is best to wear comfortable shoes when meandering around (trust me, you will get blisters and/or a broken foot wearing shoes with thin, high heels). For those worried about not being able to find boys, you needn't worry, as VMI, JMU (for those of you who like to party), UVA, and Bridgewater College are all within driving distance (though UVA takes about an hour and a half of travel time, as opposed to the usual 30 minutes it takes to get to the other three). I totally adore this school (in case you couldn't tell already), and it is definitely worth the sticker cost of tuition (I got a scholarship and grant to help with that and the admissions staff are extremely sweet)!
