The only thing that is unsatisfactory about New Paltz is the weekend life, in all other areas(academics, teacher approachability, etc.) New Paltz excels. Most of the population that lives on campus stays on campus during the weekends, but the school does not provide many activities for the students to get involved in.

What about the surrounding city? Are there things to do in the town, like concerts, clubs, restaurants, movies, bar scene? Are there any parties on campus?

The town does have a movie theater actually, where movies are relatively cheap. Sometimes a few of the coffee shops have local live music, which is always fun to attend. They do have some nice restaurants in town, Indian, Thai, American bar style, Chinese, etc. Every once in a while, students hold art shows which are really fun to attend. Sometimes they are accompanied by live music. The downtown itself is small, only ranging about a mile down 299.
