I am a sophmore at The University of Akron and I personally love it here. The campus looks beautiful and the buildings for the most part are new/renovated. This year I live in the new Exchange Street dorms and it is AMAZING. We have our own rooms and a bathroom shared with only one other person; there are even rooms with kitchens and living rooms here. Even within the past two years here at Akron there have been so many changes. The new stadium is underway and is expected to be ready for the 2009 season. Old buildings are being torn down to make way for new outdoor landscapes, Rob's dining hall is all brand new with better food and even more vendors suchas:pizza places and resturaunts take our meal plan. The surrounding community is slowly becoming safer as students and new construction move into former "Ghetto" neighborhoods. I am a Music Education major and the program is very strong. Yeah the professors are tough on us, but it prepares us for teaching out in the real world. As long as you work hard and stay away from becoming lazy this is the program for you. The only negative part about the school is that there are TONS of commuters! It is difficult to make friends with people because it is hard to hangout with all of the commuters. If you want a TRUE college experience live in the dorms and go to activities planned by the RLC, yeah some of them are lame, but how are they supposed to get better attractions if noone attends them? This is coming from someone who does not drink, and I find plenty of fun things to do here in Akron.

questionI have just started goin to akron and i cant find anything to do do you have anymore suggestions on things do to and how i can meet new people
responseHow long have you been here? If it's been a few weeks, give it some time. Go out to events the RHPB sponsors and meet people there. Try leaving the door to your dorm room open. Kids will just walk in and you guys can talk. It's really that easy. Kids at Akron are generally pretty down to earth and approachable. note:if youre a commuter…ehhh…I don't know what to tell you. UA is really progressing towards more of a residence university.
commentPs…this isnt the original poster.
