Major: Engineering Department (This Major's Salary over time)
CMU can be a good experience, depending on your personality. I found the students to be very down to earth and generally pretty friendly. The faculty can be hit or miss. I had some great professors, average professors, and lousy professors. Mt. Pleasant isn't very exciting, but I made a lot of good friends and had fun anyway. Living expenses in Mt. Pleasant are definitely more affordable than in other areas. If you want a large university experience, CMU isn't for you. If you like always running into people you know, you'll mostly likely enjoy your time at CMU. The compact campus makes it easy to meet people as well as schedule your classes back-to-back.There are annoying things that I think are common at every university (loud dorms, no parking spaces, etc.), but I'd say that CMU is worth attending and you'd probably deal with less hassles there than what you'd find at a larger school. Be sure to pick a major that is specific and well known. My major is known at CMU, but outside of CMU, not many folks have heard of it. This has caused me a few headaches.
