Major: Aerospace Engineering (This Major's Salary over time)
Coming from a faculty member, the university is looking to start PHD program so your instructor for engineering are likely to be PHD's who are very knowledgable and looking to do research. That being said, it is frequently that they are not very good in transfering their knowledge to the students. Often, the material is relatively easy, if you understand the concept. However, the concept is really hard to come by due to it not being explained well by your instructor and you'll have to decipher the instructor and the textbook to attempt to understand the material. Quite often when you select your class schedule, you are picking your poison between instructors for the same class. If you don't believe me, search into ratemyprofessor.com and look at the reviews for engineering instructors. Also, I recieved better instructions at a community college in Washington state at 1/15 price and never been to a school where so many people are repeating classes. Don't get me wrong, there are a few good instructors. Now to the social life. Daytona Beach campus is for you if you are, a)a heterosexual male who have not discovered member of the opposite sex because attractive females sightings are about as common as seeing aliens (if you came from a larger city), b) like to be secluded from pop culture or any types of culture for that matter, c) you are obsessed with airplanes or computers, d) or just generally anti-social. The student population is about 1/3 Greek System (roughly about 3 fraternities and 3 sororities you would find at a major university), 1/3 military, and the last third is makes up with all sort of people. In other words, it is very cliquey. The cafeteria reminds me of a large high school lunch time. The townies are generally trashy and NASCAR fans. I've told my friends to not come visit me because it was not worth the plane ticket to come here.My best advice is to come to DB to take a look for yourself. It will save you many years of grief and lots of tuition if you agree with me. Luckily for me, I am a transfer student and only have to be here for about 2 years.
