Wow… I just saw a flew of very immature and negative comments about SMU. Please, put deeper thought into where you go to college. You want a school that caters to you and makes you happy. There are times when I am unhappy with SMU. This is when you actually do something to try and create change in your university. Meaning you need to get INVOLVED. Everyone has a voice as long as they are actually using it! The minorities do a good job with their programs. If anyone is going to complain about the minority programs, then RUN FOR OFFICE to change that!

SMU is a fun school, I think. There is always an event to participate in or go to. The school of Meadows puts on great shows! I don't know if I'd actually want to be a student (they work very, very hard. I think you'd have to LOVE whatever it is you're doing to be a Meadows student. Its a sacrifice)

SMU cares about freshmen and prospective students quite a bit. And they understand that there are party problems so they have a taxi service and carts to take you back home at night so you are safe. They are working very hard to solve these problems and have some creative brainstorming ideas.

The students are rich, but there are also a lot of students who are not rich (or at least don't seem like it). Some people walk around with Lacoste shirts. So? I don't really understand how someone can actually COMPLAIN that someone is looking good on campus. Half the people are just wearing t-shirts and jeans. I don't know why you would COMPLAIN that people have nice cars. If they can have it, why shouldn't they? And why can't you feel proud that you go to a school that looks so nice? And stop stereotyping people. Just because someone looks and dresses well doesn't mean they paid a lot of money for it NOR does it mean they are SNOBBY or DUMB. Excuse you…

There are always going to be immature people, but the people with good heads on their shoulders are involved in the school enough that you shouldn't feel like you're outcasted. You can make lots of friends, no matter who you are. There is a place at SMU for everybody… If you come in with a negative mind set or let someone you met ruin your whole experience, good luck being happy anywhere.

Academically, I am pleased. I think the courses are fairly challenging. Just be sure to pick a good professor! Unfortunately, SMU has a few crappy professors. Hopefully a specific professor on probation will finally get fired next year. On the bright side, they also have some GREAT ones in which they make you think

I am getting my money's worth!

I think SMU is a good school for business. This is a top of the line business school, my friends. In fact, there is a WHOLE (gorgeous, btw) BUILDING just for professionals who are already working in the field to further their education. This is a top business school and a top networking school. I know a guy who graduated a year or two ago and is making 100,000 because he met a guy at a party who's father works for Microsoft.

SMU has also been teaching me some VERY IMPORTANT life skills. Networking, social skills, job skills, competition, influencing your community, etc. I love the experience I am getting here.

I am an engineer. They have many programs for us. I think I'll do the 4+1 program. I will graduate in 5 years with a bachelours and masters degree. How sweet is that? I've joined a frat with ties to the business in Dallas (dallas is GREAT for work, you business folk). It is an academic frat, people. So when you see the statistics that say that 30 % of students are in frats remember that some of them are MULTICULTRAL AND ACADEMIC!… also remember that is 60% of students who are NOT in greek life!!

Now, for grad school, I am not sure how they feel. I know a lot of them dislike that the food places are closed in the evening when they actually have time to come to school. But I am trying to change that right now, actually…

Downside to SMU… I don't know what to say. I think every school has a downside. i can't compare SMU to any place except maybe UTD, etc. But if you're looking at SMU then its dumb to start comparing it to public schools, ya know? I don't like all the red tape, but I think this is normal. I wish there were more study abroad opportuninties. Some schools have 60% of students studying abroad in the winter term. Having a winter term would be GREAT (don't worry. There is ONE or TWO in like China and Mexico or something. I will do it next year.) But yeah. I think when study abroad is so easy and accessible it reminds us that this is a BIG damn world and SMU is just an itty bitty little spec. It opens your horizons. The International Students should make themselves more known. This will add to the overall culture of SMU. The Int'l students seeming so small is not SMU's fault. Int'l have a club, so they need to step up themselves.
