Let me start off that I am all the way from Pennsylvania, I like to have fun, and I care about my academics.I love the U. It has mellowed me out much more than I'd ever expected. My classes were challenging but they were exactly what I made out of them. If youre looking for a school to shove academics down your throat then you should look somewhere else. The medical programs are great. I have heard that biomedical engineering is an intense but satisfying program the U has to offer. My professors have been genuinely interested in their teaching and I've felt that my money has been money well spent. Granted I thought long and hard about my particular classes but I think everybody should do that.I've made tons of way cool chilled out friends. The party scene here is mellow and it's more about drinkin and kickin it with your buds rather than tons of huge ragers all the time. There is a varied political climate. Most of my friends are subaru driving granola stoners who love to ski/board and some of them are way into school. Speaking of skiing…the powder…it's DIVINE. It's so perfect. That is my favorite thing about this school is that the top of the mountain is like 30 MINUTES away from campus. 30 minutes. You can also take public transportation if you're like me and don't have a car, as long as you can carry your gear. The pow is so delicious and amazing. Snowbird is my fave, but you can cut freshies anywhere if you look and or hike.Outdoorsness is to the MAX. You name it it's here. There are lots of cool outdoor activities through the U, from spring-break river rafting trips to memorial day weekend rock climbing. Go camping in the Uintahs in the early fall. Longboarding whenever it's nice out and you have Trax, a train that runs east down a snaky vein through the city from campus to downtown to the shopping mall the Gateway, to take you back up the perfect run as many times as youd like. Go ski! Even if you don't have the gear you can rent skis from the Outdoor Rec center for only 25$ for a whole weekend. Salt Lake, by th way, is also gorgeous, mountains everywhere and open sky, and big wide streets. I hardly ever feel enclosed here. There is frat partying but I'm personally biased against frats because a frat guy broke my heart (I know right welcome to college naive freshman girl.) Drum circle at 2 on Sundays in the nice weather. Lots of great music and concerts, some of them free! I saw slightly Stoopid & Rusted Root free a few weeks ago. A downside is that too many good shows will be 21+. There's a groovin reggae scene and a badass rave community. Salt Lake has a really big variety of stuff and it's a gorgeous low stress place to live. good vibes. And the school will kick your ass. Suggested course Principles of Physiology 5200/6200. That course will tell you what's up!I'm finishing my freshman year and I love it here. It feels like home to me.
