As an Alumnus of SMU, I think I can give some insight of an SMS Degree. All of the negatives are valid.

Yes, it is a posh, elite school, (so was Yale and Harvard, 50 years ago)

Yes, It is NOT a Bible-thumping Texas University ( keep the freaks at Baylor and A&M)

Yes, alot of the student body come from elite prep schools.

But this is what SMU is about. It is for kids that cant get into an IVY, Duke or Vanderbilt, but they still want to go to a university that has prestige and get a good education.

Yes, It is a social university. If you are not so inclined, go to Rice or Cornell, where you roommate may top themselves after getting a C.

I made the best friends of my life there. I have been able to catch up with my SMU mates in London, Singapore and Sydney. They have accomplished some amazing things with their lives, and would give you the shirt off their back if needed.

Being from Dallas, I was happy to share my university life with my family. I had no idea how short they would be with me.

Enjoy the happy, freindly place - SMU. You will meet some amazing professor, friends and family. SMU is an open minded place, that loves a good debate. I should know, I am one of the few Democrats. I loved being my opinions being challenged. It only makes you evaluate your beliefs more.
