Over my past three years at this University I have been discriminated against by teachers, faulty, staff, fellow students, and people in general. My main problem though is the teachers and how they all discriminate against white people and it is even in the textbooks. The derogatory name they call white people is taught to be commonly used within the university. I feel like there is nothing I can do, because of the overwhelming prejudices against me. Teachers are lenient and make accommodations in grading the vast amount of international students within regular classes and grade harder for the Native Speakers of English. Which to me is completely illogical, because why would someone want to go to a university and feel lesser than the other because of race. I know the ancestors of my ethnicity have done bad things in the past, but should I have to be constantly reminded about it in every class. Education here is really one sided, but you can learn a lot about Hawaiian and local culture and how Hawaii would like to take over the state and become sovereign again. Which to me is completely unethical, because another country would have probably just have slaughtered the people here and took over the land. The school is the main point though, whatever you do, do not come to the University of Hawaii at Manoa, the teachers, and practically everything is more than difficult to deal with. The financial aid is horrible as well. They really do not want to help you when you go into the office and want to discuss anything. Not to get off the subject, but the main point again is the amount of prejudices within this school. The teachers are blunt about how they feel and it will even effect your grades. I am not sure if this happens at other universities, but it has happened to me here more than enough times to write this report. I kind of learned to just live with it and accept the fact that my race determines my grades and how I will be treated at this school.
