I went to USM's School of Music and had a great experience. There is a LOT that needs to be changed though. First of all, and this is in no way the fault of the SOM, they need a new building. New practice rooms, new performance spaces, new overall facilities.

Secondly, they need to teach more about business and how to survive in the world as a musician, teacher, etc. HOW TO MANAGE MONEY, MAKE MONEY, NOT GET RIPPED OFF.

And the advising is awful. You might as well go to advising services and skip the whole

professor trying to double duty advise

All that being said, it's a close knit community and while you're actually in school, there is a lot to be involved in. Once you get out, you're on your own.
