Major: Philosophy (This Major's Salary over time)
Creighton University has many positive aspects, of which I enjoyed my freshmen year. I found that many of my professors offered me excellent insight and cared about each students progress in his or her class. Depending on class size, professors were generally available and were interested and engaged with student problems, questions, or just conversation. However, administratively, I did have some negative experiences. I felt often times like I was just one of the many within the system. Working to get classes with the Registrar's office made me aware of a cold and unpleasant bureaucracy that one must cut through in order to ensure that I got into classes I wanted. Generally, I felt the administration did not cater to individual student needs, especially since many of the graduating criteria established at the Registrar's is arbitrary. I say this because most requirements are defined by the department of one's Major. However, I feel that this is probably something that occurs in several schools and since Creighton does have about 4000 undergraduates, I can understand the necessity of having some sort of standards, even if arbitrary, in order to ensure that students are taking the proper classes.I can see why some students would not like this university however. The classes are harder hear than state schools, and the level of performance is higher. Reachable professors to me means someone who will sit and chat with you about their subject matter, somewhat guide you, but generally let you work things out for yourself. Generally, Creighton's professors do not baby you.So to conclude, I have to say that the education I've achieved here has been excellent. This is due to the care of the professors to take direct interest in their students. While the administration is a bit over-bearing, I can understand because of the size of the school. In order to have the opportunities that Creighton has to offer, this is a necessary vice. The quality and overall feel of the campus is excellent and I would recommend coming to Creighton for anyone who is seeking a well-rounded and active educational experience.
