While at UE, I really couldn't have asked for a better place for me. I really liked the small-town atmosphere held within Indiana's 3rd largest city. I made some wonderful friends and enjoyed the generally positive feeling that was emitted by just about everyone. Many of my classes were quite enjoyable. The professors in my departments were usually willing to help, and some were exceptionally caring, intelligent, and humorous individuals. The negatives at UE are also numerous, but I didn't mind them that much while on campus. The dorm rooms were pretty cramped and skuzzy, but the apartments for upper classmen are much better. The campus was very small, so just about everyone knew everyone, meaning NOTHING was private. Many of my friends did have a lot of student loans to pay off after graduation, luckily I did not. And there were a lot of maintanence repairs that needed to be made, especially the flooding issues! I realized the main negative aspect about UE after I graduated. It is that although the classes were difficult and very educational, most grad schools/employers have never heard of the University of Evansville. I feel like I got a great education, but unless I planned to stay in the Evansville area, no one will ever be impressed by the fact that I went to UE. It honestly will not help my get a job anywhere besides Vectren, Mead-Johnson, or American General (all Evansville businesses). And the career counselors seem to have very little pull outside of Indiana. My friends at IU or Purdue were RECRUITED by major corporations; none of these corporations have ever heard my name.I would probably still go to the University of Evansville because I had such a fun and education time while on campus; however, I wish I would have realized what a price I was paying by going to such a small private college. My only other advice for incoming freshman is to be sure that you enjoy every aspect of campus life. Try to make a friend or two out of each of the 'groups': the Greeks, the theatre department, the music kids, the engineers, the nurses, the religious people, etc. Some times each of the groups can be a bit elitist; however, they all have something to offer and the best bet is to try to take advantage of all of the social opportunities instead of just one kind.
