If you're going into engineering, proficiency in science and math is a must have. For the rest of your classes, it's all about just working your way through the unnecessary and relatively tough english classes and hoping you get a good enough grade. For those who have said that there is no night life in the surrounding city - they obviously don't get out of their rooms that much. Many clubs and places to hang out, you just need to know who to ask. You're certainly going to need an extra-curricular activity or place to hang out, because it will serve as a vital tool to relieve your stress. Florida's a great place but Florida Tech is a hard school if you're in engineering. As long as you find the right balance between studying and having fun, you'll be ok. One of the best ways to finding this balance is by getting involved in a Greek Organization, as the Greek scene has become increasingly popular at Florida Tech in an effort to encourage each new student to advance their personal values and provide a home away from home.
