PROS- There were some good parts to SSC.
  • Coming from a small town, I found going to a smaller college to be a better transition than would be going to a larger university.
  • The professors in my major were excellent, and I loved the courses that came with it.
  • Campus is only about a mile from downtown Salem, a beautiful city if you ever get the chance to walk around in.
  • Most of the RA's were very nice. I lived in the freshman dorm in Peabody Hall, and they made living here every easy.
  • I made a lot of friends, all of them coming from different backgrounds with different majors. And being able to meet a variety of people in the dorms was quite refreshing.
  • CONS- Oh boy, here's where it gets interesting:

  • We DID have a library… until mid-October. Now it's shut down, and no one knows for sure when it is going to reopen.
  • The dormitory maintenance is ridiculous. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting, and god forbid somebody spill a drink on the floor, resulting in a $30 charge!
  • 85% of the students commute, so it's quite difficult meeting anybody interesting who lives with you on campus. Plus, most students who live on campus live in nearby towns, so they go home on weekends, leaving us who do stay quite lonely.
  • The food… it's bad. That's all I'm going to say.
  • The dorms are right next to the projects… Enough said.
  • Internet here BLOWS. It's extremely slow. I talked with a friend of mine who worked for the IT Department (actually, I think it's is the same kid who posted the comment below me), and he told me that after you've visited 25 webpages, the server kicks you offline for 2 minutes… even if you bring in an Ethernet cable, you still have the same problem.
  • … In the end, I decided to transfer. Mainly for personal reasons, but SSC did have a large impact on my decision. I would recommend this school, but only if you live in the North Shore area of MA and want to commute.
