MDC
is a wonderful school. Professors are extremely helpful. They help
to create a nurturing environment where every student can learn
and grow. Sure, there are probably professors that stink, but
I have yet to find him/her. Otherwise, I really feel
like a person inside the classroom. I feel that professors
value what I have to say in class discussions, and
that's important to me. Even the school itself tries to
make out of each individual a cultured, well-rounded being. This
past spring, MDC, along with other sponsors, hosted the annual
Miami Film Festival, which, by the way, was AMAZING! There
were excellent films this year, and the best part of
it all is that MDC students had the opportunity to
go see any 4 films for FREE. I definitely took
advantage of the opportunity, and I loved it. They also
bring world-renowned artists, writers, journalists...really, professionals recognized globally in their
subject area all the time! Some professors will even give
their students extra credit grades for going to these presentations.
I can't speak for every single class, or every single
student, for that matter, but in the past year that
I have been there, I have felt comfortable around my
peers. They are curious and they are eager to learn.
They're goal-oriented. Absolutely the best bunch of people I've studied
with.
Services can be a little bit bad, but I
think it depends on who you go to for help.
Some people are very helpful, some are not. But compared
to other state schools (ahem) FIU, the services department at
MDC is far better. I went to FIU 2 semesters
ago, and it was a hassle to deal with them. MDC's services are far better. I consider that it's easier
to talk to a live person at MDC than at
FIU. In FIU, they'll tell you to use the Pantherchat.
What useless b/s.
I won't lie about campus life...this is
strictly a commuter school. There aren't that many things to
do. There are some clubs, sports, and activities that students
can participate in, but not that many. The campus (the
Kendall campus, that is) is very quiet. There isn't too
much excitement. Ever. But that's okay...the school recompensates itself quite
nicely.
Parking is so-so. In the morning, it's extremely easy
to park (when I say morning, I mean from 6:30-8:00),
especially if you park inside the garage. After 8:00-ish AM,
parking gets really ugly. It stays that way until well
in the afternoon.
I am a happy student. I had
almost decided to sacrifice that happiness at FIU, but I
was smart enough not to do that. I realized that
MDC was going to get me where I want to
be, whereas FIU wasn't. I'm happy to be here, and
I will always be grateful to MDC.
