Major: Physics (This Major's Salary over time)
I can't rationalize a reason why anyone would decide to go here out of personal choice other than being a CAP student or from around San Antonio. I mean no offense, but I think majority of the upper level students are those who did not make the CAP requirements and so decided to stay. The classes consist of low rigor uninspiring content such that my high school was easily harder than this. I came away with a 4.0 gpa here but I don't think it's going to prepare me at all for the courses I'm going to be taking at UT Austin next semester. On that note however, if you were not in the top 10% of your high school class and got CAP'ed than this is the school to go to for it's really easy to make the GPA, however expect to be shaken for every dime you have! Fees come out of nowhere apparently, and it's 200 dollars just to park in your own apartment complex if you live on campus! This school offers SI sessions and tutoring centers to help in classes, but truth be told most SI leaders either have not taken the course or they've sufficiently forgotten the material such that they're about as effective as never having taken the course. The tutoring center is usually always swamped such that it may take 3 hours for you to ask a question and get a rushed inexplicable answer. The teachers are not very smart or don't connect with the students very well however since the majority of students here are incredibly lazy or not bright you can expect ridiculously high curves like in my math class where I got a 15 point curve to my final grade or my chemistry class where I effectively got 10 points to my final grade. A degree from here is without prestige and you'll easily be overlooked by companies or graduate schools over students who went to UT Austin or A&M or Tech. There was pretty much nothing to do as you have campus and then downtown is like 20 minutes away. People are not very friendly and you can expect the equivalent attitudes as you saw in high school. On that note there is no football team as of 2008 and really anything to rally behind this school is not very popular. While I had a bad experience with one room mate, my bad experience here was intensified by the fact that I made barely any new friends as everyone here is pretty much from San Antonio so they carry their high school friends with them, the school is basically an extension of high school for most people. In summary: Don't choose to go hereIf you're CAP'ed go here, put in your one year, go to UT Austin, and prepare yourself for the most fun/learning a REAL university offers.
