Major: Mechanical Engineering (This Major's Salary over time)
The Purdue experience is what you make of it. If you make friends early and get out there you will definitely have a good time. If you are not in engineering major you may feel that the university does not pay enough attention to you. If you are in an engineering major you will feel that the non-engineers have it too easy. Joining clubs will allow you to make a lot of new friends and learn a lot of new skills. Weekends are not boring if you know the right people. Social life improves greatly once you turn 21. The workload can be a challenge, I did not find it too hard but I may have a skewed perspective because I skipped 1 year of math and foreign language and was able to have a more spread out course load. But even that does not make fluid dynamics an easier course so it still is a challenge. The engineering students in Mechanical Engineering are very friendly and helpful. Doing homework and studying in groups is not uncommon and is quite helpful in learning the things you may have missed in class. Once you are passed the large freshman classes the class sizes in the ME department drop and professors are far more approachable and really do care about the progress of their students. Those reading this review who are juniors or seniors in high school will be happy to know that the ME building will be receiving a new wing soon as well as updated instrumentation in its labs. And finally, Purdue does a great job of getting its students employed in both summer internships and full time positions.
