I came to Kennesaw State University to begin my third year of college in the fall of 2007. I am a transfer students from Georgia Southern who wanted to get out and experience a bigger city and put myself into an enviroment where I could meet new people and have an educational enlighting experience. Their are several below par aspects of this school compared to my experience at my former college. Most important academically is the fact that their are way to many students and not enough space in the classes to accomodate them. I found myself both fall and spring semesters scrammbling to get classes during drop/add and neither semester coming up with all fifteen hours that I needed. When you talk to the professors and administrators they seem to have an attitude of thats just the way it is deal with it outlook that is very discouraging. Someone that is in charge needs to admit less students in order for everyone who is a student to get the necessary classes in order to graduate on time. The library is way to small for a school with this many students. Georgia Southern, which has less students, has a far superior library with hundreds of computers for everyone to use. The library at Kennesaw has maybe fifty that always seem to be full. The computers lack Microsoft office to let you type a paper, powerpoint ect. The computer labs have these things but they are scattered around campus and are not open at all hours. The library is also not open twenty-four hours, but that I can honestly understand, as a lot of students do not live on or around campus. Parking is a huge daily battle that any student who drives will have to deal with. Waiting in line to get in a parking deck takes forever. You can park across the street and cross a major intersection to get on campus, but I dont really feel that safe when I do. As I allready mentioned I am a former Georgia Southern University student and really miss a lot of the little things that I took for granted. Their is no football team here at Kennesaw, which is lame. Their is no night life for students what so ever! Their is not one bar that based for college students that are within walking distance. This means that to find entertainment you have to drive and drinking and driving is no good. The only sort of partying you can hope to achieve is at the dorms, but the cops are very strict and think that underage drinking is of the same equivelent as murder. You can count on getting some sort of citation for having fun and if you do, you can be kicked out of the dorm. I watched literally half of building G, over the course of a semester get kicked out, most of the time for drinking a beer at their house, and not driving anywhere. I just want to yell in their faces, "This is college, this is what college students do. Go and fight some real crime and let us have fun." The dorms bring me to my next topic, extortion. I can not remeber the exact price for living in a dorm with three other roomates but it is in the neighborhood of somewhere between five and six hundred dollars. The price is insane, someone is making entirely way to much profit of college students who are broke and have to burden their parents to pay the extra money on top of their nearly two thousand dollar per semester tuition. For four students to pay five hundred dollars a head, they could live in a very nice house for that amount of money. Two thousand dollars plus, for four students to have a cheap apartment with two baths and small everything, that you cant even enjoy yourself at because the cops will just walk in your dorm randomly and say " Their was a complaint", I swear I have seen this happen. I do not have the power to change these things. I guarantee their are thousands of students out their that share a similar oponion as me who wish someone would speak up. I can only warn incoming students not to attend this school, I tell everyone I know that thinks about attending Kennesaw State University to go somewhere else and explain to them the reasons I have to you. I hope that someone who has some sort of power over any of these matters, reads, and conciders alternatives to any or all of the concerns that I have layed out before you. If only a prospect student reads this, I strongly suggest to go to another school, this one is not the one for anybody.
Thank you,
Adam…
