I transfered to this school after attending two other big universities. I was looking for a place that could blend personal growth and education. This is the only place I could find that did so. It has it's pitfalls, the university was founded in the early 70s by followers of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, and it is heavily influenced by Maharishi's teachings. The academic curriculum is pretty much the same as any other school, only they relate everything back to Vedic Science and Maharishi's views. If this isn't your cup of tea, then you'll have a hard time here. If you are pretty easy going and take everything at face value, then you'll have a really really good time. They used to have a dress code policy but not anymore. They encourage the students to practice TM and most find it very beneficial. Some have a problem with having to attend meditation twice a day: They want to go whenever they "feel" it. Some say it doesn't work. Some sleep through it.

The students are very open-minded and progressive, but not all of the faculty is the same way. In recent years they have opened up a lot. The great thing is that the faculty is really approachable and they become your friends. The university is on the block system which means you take one class a month.

The Sustainable Living program is hugely popular. It's still pretty new, and it has grown a lot thanks to some very dedicated students who've pushed forth newer and newer ideas. About half of the students are sustainable living majors. In the end, this is the type of school where the experience of being here will stay with you for the rest of your life. I've seen people go through life-changing transformations (I guess meditation and cornfields will do that to anyone).

Keeping in mind that most college students lose 95% of what they learn within 5 years, personal experience and growth become that much more important. I find this school to be a treasure in terms of wisdom and transformation. Academics are secondary, and they rank about average when compared to my previous schools.
