I am a former alumni when RCC was in a church. I am also a former member and president of RCC's choral group. We were a family back then. I remember singing in the snow with the faculty, students and choral group at the present location of RCC. We were protesting the continuious delays of getting the school built.

I loved RCC. Even back then, it was a lot of hard work. I learned not to make excuses. I was 25 and a single parent. At the time and I had to juggle. I had to balance my life for the benefit of my child and myself. I don't think there is anything I would have done different. I wanted to learn and I had the desire to make myself better. It is all about what you put into your experience. It's not all about books and grades. It's about hands on experience. A lot of us feel that just because you have a degree, you are entitled to a job. Not true! A bit of advice—internship, internship, internship. Also, know that you are never to old for an education. Finally, think bigger than what you are. My mistake…I thought too small. Another bit of advice, if you plan to continue to another college, check out the prerequsites. My graduate college did not accept some of the courses from RCC, which meant, I had to take them all over again. Maybe things have changed, but I didn't like the idea of taking math, English and history over again. I would say about 70% of my courses from RCC were accepted at my 4-year college. Instead of finishing in two years for my BA. I had to complete 2 1/2 years. I went every summer and took four (12 hr) classes.

I am very proud of RCC and it's accomplishments. I am also proud to say my daughter WILL be graduting from the nursing program in 2009. That's the best bit of advice I can give. Leave a legacy for your children. They are watching.

Carry on RCC. You've become a great school. I am a 1979 alumni. My major was Early Childhood Education. I earned my BA in Public Relations at the age of 43 and now own my own business.
