UAB has really transformed itself. While the campus has a much more traditional feel than has been the case in the past, UAB is still very much an urban university which sets it apart from many of the other large public universities. Extracurricular activities and overall social life at UAB is more than sufficient for most. However, if you're looking only to party and just slide by easily in academics, UAB isn't the place for you. Moreso than many public schools, UAB has a student body full of people that are very committed to getting a degree and moving into the real world. Most of the majors at UAB follow a pretty challenging path, but the reward of a UAB degree definitely makes the effort worth it. In regards to sports, men's basketball is probably one of the most popular and successful of all athletic programs at UAB. UAB didn't field a football team until fairly recently in the grand scheme of things, but the football program has done some amazing things in the short time it's existed. All in all, UAB is a great school with an exceptional academic reputation and a growing campus life. I have visited many of the bigger public institutions in the Southeast, and I have to say that I have no regrets about my decision to attend UAB.
