Major: Psychology (This Major's Salary over time)
I'm a rising senior at Hartwick College and the three years of experience I have had at this institution have been challenging and completely worth it. The most unique aspect of this college is that in order to succeed, you need to take charge of your education and really "own" your time here. As a result of the responsibility that is expected, you really have to be involved in your academics and I think that goes for every college. You really need to be enthusiastic about what you're getting out of your education. I've always felt challenged. Yes, freshman year was a little bit of a breeze, but considering that since then I have had numerous internship, study abroad and research opportunities it balances out. In order to not be challenged, you really have to take a back seat to getting involved. In response to the comments about undeclared students being dismissed, I disagree, Hartwick is designed for the undeclared student. With the Liberal Arts in Practice Curriculum, you can really find the field you feel passionate about. Additionally, Hartwick offers an Undeclared Advisor (which is a little different from years passed) that helps the undeclared student figure out the major that would be most rewarding for the individual.Hartwick? A party school? really? I've never had that experience. Yeah, people party, but there are so many people who decide to spend their time outside of alcohol consumption. Additionally, what college campus does not have a little partying? It would be silly to expect students not to rebel a bit.I think what can explain the belief that it is a party school is because you do see people go downtown pretty regularly but that lifestyle does lend itself to the same group of 30 people. And once you have a sour experience at Hartwick - let alone any school - you tend to pick out everything negative even if it is not extreme.Financially, Hartwick is expensive. Unfortunately :(. But I know from personal experience that as long as you bring it to the table academically and through extracurriculars, Hartwick does offer great scholarship opportunities.I feel like I am going on a rant here but reading the negative comments that were left, I feel as though some things do need to be argued a bit :).
