Major: English (This Major's Salary over time)
I had a difficult first year, because I was homesick and still adjusting to college life. But after that point, I had a wonderful experience at Denison. My major, English Writing, is one of the strongest on campus, with faculty who are not only intense and smart teachers but also very well-known writers. I have friends at other colleges who never got to work with anyone as accomplished as these guys. They pushed me hard, and also completely cared about how I did. My advisor rocked! She was amazingly smart, challenging, a great role model, a wonderful writer. Really, I can't say enough about her support. I had a lot of opportunities to work one on one with my teachers, and students in my classes were smart and lively and creative. There were some meh classes in other departments, but they can't all be great. Campus social life is what you make it—I found friends, parties when I wanted them, some interesting social groups, a really welcoming group of international students. If you don't have a car, the campus can feel a little isolating. Denison's reputation is climbing, and deservedly so. I'm so glad I came here—I was looking for a small college, and got into Colby, Davidson, Rhodes, and Bucknell. But my campus visit to Denison convinced me that this was the place for me. Now that I've graduated, I can see that I made absolutely the right choice.
