Walden is about getting an education outside of the mainstream. It is a virtual environment except for the residences PhD students attend. It is challenging because one learns by applying the theories that are read into academic papers. It is for people who like to do things away from a traditional classroom. To be successful there are many things one must do.To be an online student one must1. Have self discipline to do your work without a teacher hovering over your shoulder.2. Expect to write many many papers that adhere to APA style. APA style is encouraged because Walden University wants their students to be able to publish their papers in Peer Reviewed Journals later in life which requires editing skills and adhering to APA style.3. Read the textbooks and lessons weekly. This means no procrastination for silly reasons.4. Must be serious or else one will fall behind.5. Be a self planner because they encourage personal responsibility.People who should not enroll in Walden1. If you are too traditional to brick and mortar schools then online may not be right for you.2. If you are lazy and make excuses too often you will fail.3. Are not willing to learn and become more scholarly.4. If you are not determined to finish what you begin then the dedication might seem too much.5. If you don't like to write and expect only tests then stay away. From my experiences from online colleges Walden is very good. A degree is what you make of it and if you are just wanting a better paycheck or just a piece of paper that states your education level then it is not the place for you. Having a good career and education takes experience, planning, motivation, and patience. If you have had no experience in the field of the education you are taking then the degree is nothing but a piece of paper. You must build experience from your education instead of expecting employers to bow down to you when you graduate. That is another reason Walden is not right for everyone. If you want an education outside of the box, do things independently, are self disciplined, willing to write many papers, and want to transform yourself into a professional then Walden might be right for you. If you are the total opposite then no use. Be warned Walden is challenging but is worth it in the long run if you learn how to develop a path and career at the same time.
