I went to FDU in Madison for four years and had a great experience. Most of the negative comments Ive read on this site revolve around the notion that there is nothing to do as far as campus life goes. I couldnt disagree more. It isnt a typical “party school nor is it a very large campus, so if youre looking for an Animal House or Van Wilder experience, then no, FDU is not for you; at least not Madison. The town itself is very cute, and nearby Morristown provides a good 21+ scene. As far as parties go, I always managed to have my fun; although you do run the risk of having to deal with Public Safety if youre on campus, but thats unavoidable. The train station is right there, and NYC is a mere 40-minute trip, so that was always another option when looking for something to do. There are plenty of clubs and student organizations to join to keep you busy, and I know that they always had small weekend trips available to sign up for. I played field hockey throughout my four years at FDU, so maybe my time was more occupied because of that, but I still feel that there is plenty to do, if you put yourself out there and take advantage of whats offered to you, rather than just complain and do nothing. The campus is small, but beautiful. Some of the buildings (freshman dorms and the village in particular) could use some renovations however. Class sizes were small as well, which I think is important because it really encourages a stronger professor/student relationship. Im not saying that I liked every professor that I had, but overall I found the faculty to be helpful and encouraging. Again, its about what you put into your experience there and how much you apply yourself. Overall I think FDU gave me exactly what I needed in a college experience; fun, room to grow, new friends, and most importantly, a solid education.
