Major: Anthropology (This Major's Salary over time)
I hated UMaine in Orono! Most professors were snutty and the ones that were nice to your face might be capable of holding you back if they didn't like you. A lot of female professors did too much male bashing. Both the young students and the non-traditional students were arrogant, rude, obnoxious, clique-ish, and very mean spiritied if they didn't like you. Too much drinking, drugs, and crime that the campus purposely sweeps under the carpet to keep it out of the news. A lot of teachers, instructors, and professors all had sloppy teaching skills and sloppy sentence structure so it makes tests difficult. Sorry for my own rambling here but that campus just about ruined me, most students end up on anti-anxiety medications, anti depressants, or end up joinging the pushy self entitled drunk crowd. It's a 4th rate University in a 3rd rate state trying to pose as being bigger than it really is, they spend too much money in all the wrong places, instead of spending money on more education, better teachers, and resorting old buildings, they spend it on expensive monigrammed tile and Rec Centers that they can not afford (then jack up the tuition wether or not you use the Rec Center or fancy Union), meanwhile some parts of campus are crumbling or off limits due to dangerous falling debrees. Also getting help for problems is terrible both academically or emotionally, they don't really councel you at their health center, nor is the Housing Staff helpful, the Resident Directors and Resident Assistants are too busy trying to fit in with the cliques who act as the dominate voice of the dorms/halls. People tend to LIE a lot behind each others backs and can easily turn people against you. When I first returned to college I was a happy person glad to get a better degree, after spending years at UMaine I feel chewed up and fragile, I feel spit out and used up. I actually had to see a therapist due to most the anxiety and stress that people cuased me at that EVIL Two faced school! They act nice at first to new students and then quickly turn on them, people are very two faced and holding tripple standards that's hard to deal with. UMaine might be cheaper over all but you get what you pay for and believe me, you may pay dearly with your mental health if you go to such a horrible University. I'm much happier now that I'm transfering, I am surrounded by much better people, and I feel fantastic now, I'm even sleeping better at night. Leaving UMaine was the best thing I've done in a long time, UMaine Orono is a nightmare school for evil people!
