Date: Aug 29 2008 Major: Political Science (This Major's Salary over time) Hello Perspective students.I am a graduate of Davis & Elkins college. This, is rare feat. Not because of its tough academic standards, but because only slightly more than 50% of the students who choose D&E as their college, do not graduate from it. Most students very quickly realize that they have made a horrible choice and flee as quickly as possible.I some cases a small liberal arts college gives you a great educational atmosphere that promotes education while treating the student as an individual. This is not the case with D&E, you wind up paying more money than you would have at a state school, with little or no resources to show for it. If there is a ground breaking devolvement in the workforce, a new technology that revolutionizes the way Americans work, play, live. You can bet that D&E will not have that technology or development for 10-15 years. (Only in the year of my graduation of 1998, did the school upgrade their computer operating systems to MS' 95, from MS for DOS!!!)Not only do you get to pay top dollar for limited resources, but you get to go to a small school, and get treated like a number. The individual attention simply is not there, the dedication to the students simply is not there. Some people who would defend D&E use the very tired argument of "If you use the resources that are given to you," or "D&E can be what you make of it". This is ridiculous. You should not pay 25,000 dollars a year to go to a college and then make it work. The college should already be working, already offer excellent resources, and high academic standards. For the record I did actively participate at D&E, I served all 4 years on the student council, 3 years as a Student advisor on the Board of Trustees and dozens of other activities. I did what I could to make it a better place. If anyone would like further info about this horrific excuse for a college please feel free to contact me.Thank you and good luck with your college search.P.S. ask the admissions reps about the 10% reduction in staff and cut backs in college programs this year.
