Major: English (This Major's Salary over time)
Creative writing major here and, honestly, school is what you make of it. Especially in an Arts degree such as my own. Knox provided me with a faculty that knew how to get published and knew the tools of the art of writing. I couldn't be happier with their program and the way it helped me to think about character development, originality, and syntax. There is no reason to hate on Knox. It is what it is. To some, it's a steaming cess-pool of dirty, tree-hugging liberals. To others, it is a community of open-minded, intelligent individuals that hope to distinguish themselves in their respective fields. Galesburg is small and doesn't have much to do, but the town has a lot of history that a student should key into. You can walk through the house of Carl Sandburg, poet laureate of Chicago, or read up on the Lincoln-Douglas debates among many other historical markers. The social life is actually pretty exceptional given the small size of the school. I found a group of like-minded people (creative writers) and plan to maintain my friendship with them the rest of our lives. A perfect night for us would be sitting around, drinking, and listening to Eliot's "The Wasteland". What more can you ask for in friends? Professors are understanding and helpful as long as you will take the time to meet with them. I will always maintain my friendship with my favorite professor as well as my friends. They are cool people with loads of life experience and they will help you in your studies and beyond. Which is what really matters, right? Stop trying to make the grade and just live a little people.
