I was shocked by the negative reviews. Please do not let them scare you. These people have an ax to grind because they are prima-donnas who expected college to be an easy escape from home and be treated like royalty.I will get the bad stuff out of the way first: yes, Galesburg sucks. But that's no different from other midwestern towns. And it is very safe. It's not awful looking and the weather is totally OK. There's nothing to do - I admit that. Don't come to Knox for the town. Also, because the faculty do so much research they are distracted a lot.The campus isn't very good looking. We need more color. Old Main is nice, though. Now for the many positives: Knox students are curious and spirited. The teachers know their stuff and make an effort to know everybody's name. They will treat you like an adult. Some of them are spacey, but that's true for every college I think. Study abroad isn't as amazing as the material makes it out to be, but it's still good. Art department is stellar. Sciences aren't as high caliber. Knox places a lot of value on learning foreign languages so my department - German - is strong. The non-school stuff is awesome! The campus activities are really fun and there are a lot. The rivalry with Monmouth gets crazy and we love it. There isn't a lot of partying, but that doesn't mean we don't know how to have a good time. (And to those people who say there's nothing to do: you should be studying when you are supposedly staring at the walls.) The food is great. Not a lot of variety, but what is there is filling and yummy. There are a lot of international students compared to the size, which is unique to Knox.Knox's name will take you places. Consider it if you're looking for a small liberal arts school that knows how to be silly and is steeped in history.
