Just be cautious. They seem to have financial surprises when you least expect it. They told me to get all my transcripts to them then popped the surprise that they need one hundred dollars to do it for me. Then when I claimed I already did it they said, "Pay the $100 anyway and its for an evaluation and application fee." Overall the instructors are pretty good. They staff is just lost and I firmly believe their left hand there doesn't know where the right hand is. This negative response only applies to the staff and the not professors. |
If you thoroughly read over their web site, there will be no surprises. I, too, am an officer. I have been attending AMU for nearly two years and will complete my undergrad this May. The experience has been great. I've attended courses at an on-campus college, which is where I earned my A.A. I also started a biology program at a university but family issues made it hard to keep going. That when I turned to AMU. I found that there is A LOT more work on-line than on-campus. With exception of one course, I have had to read every book from cover to cover and comment on every reading. The typical expectation is 500-800 mini-discussion and a substantive response to another students posting. You will write A LOT. I have written more research papers at AMU than on-campus. Like on-campus, some professors are a little more relaxed about grading. However, many, if not most, will penalize you for being late. And some require that you complete all assignments regardless of how good your grade is in the class. I have really enjoyed the experience. I am moving on to a masters program at another school simply because I want to experience what other schools have to offer as far as expectations, etc. BTW, NASA's Johnson Space Center Chief Flight Surgeon, who is a medical doctor, attended AMU to get a M.S. in Space Studies so he would understand the space sector. Good Luck! |
Where did you moved on for your Master's degree? by that i mean, Which school? |
Major: Public Policy (This Major's Salary over time)
Hey Criminal, I am a police officer in the mid south that graduated from Ole Miss with a BSCJ and I am thinking of going to AMU/APU to get my Masters in Public Admin. I just don't have time to drive down to Oxford and the Desoto Center doesn't offer a full time Masters program. I need to go online and AMU/APU so far seems the best fit. Can you share some of your experiences of AMU on this board? What are the instructors like? Grading system? How did going to AMU work with your schedule as an officer? etc.
