Date: Nov 07 2008 Major: Political Science (This Major's Salary over time) Knox College provides an excellent liberal arts education. I have visited over 50 other colleges since graduation, and have seen none that compare to Knox's ability to encourage critical thinking. I have left even ivy league schools saying:
Knox is better than this.
Having said that, Knox is what you make it. You won't find one million courses to choose from. Parties are likely to be a few hundred people, not a few thousand. But if you open yourself up to it, you will receive quality personal attention from professors. The relatively small size and lack of distractions really does encourage students to engage in the college experience. Compare Knox to great schools like Beloit, Wabash, Haverford, or any of the schools featured in
Colleges that Change Lives.
The food's not perfect, not all of the buildings are brand new, Galesburg is a smaller city, and there are no dance clubs. Knox has focused its resources primarily on the most important components of a quality education: faculty and students; not spending money on the next flashy thing to one-up the competition. If you open yourself to it, you can receive an education that will last you a lifetime. Ask incredible Knox graduates like John Podesta, General David Fridovich, Susan Deller Ross, or Dr. Dean Toriumi.Combine a true commitment to providing a personalized education, very generous scholarships and financial aid, and an intellectually and culturally diverse student body, and you've got Knox.I breezed through graduate school after Knox. Very often, my grad professors commented on my ability to critically engage topics and my writing. Both, I owe to Knox.
