I came to SOU not because I was interested in the school but because it was close to home and saved me money. I found the faculty to be caring and helpful and the students to be friendly and reasonably intelligent. Of course there are exceptions - I've had a run-in with a truly despicable professor, and met all kinds of students. There are some who don't care about classes at all, some who have some trouble with learning, some who think they are better than everybody else. But overall the students bounce ideas off of each other, respect each other, and are accepting of each other.

The school tries to provide us with dances, clubs, and activities. Often they are pretty lame, but at least they try. Ashland is a nice, safe, liberal town. There's pretty much nothing to do at night, and as a result there is a large culture of drugs and drinking. Nobody cares whether or not you do, though, so there's no pressure. There are a lot of creative people and international students. We get all four seasons in Southern Oregon - the leaves turn colors in autumn, we usually can get a snow day or two in winter, you never know whether you'll need a coat or shorts in spring, and summer is nice and hot.

I really became happy about my choice to attend SOU when I declared my Psychology major. The professors in my department are excellent, generally approachable, kind, helpful, and experts in their fields.
