Major: Mechanical Engineering (This Major's Salary over time)
Having been on both the student side and faculty side at Marquette, I feel I have a unique perspective of the University. I have read many comments that have suggested the science classes are hard and meant to weed people out. Well, you will find that science classes are hard at any university, but I never met a professor that took pleasure in failing students. Students who feel they are struggling need to find the time to approach the professors and/or TA's and ask them questions regarding the material. As a TA, I found that students that approached me during my office hours faired better in labs and lecture than those who didn't. Every professor I took or worked with appreciated students asking meaningful questions about lecture topics. Keep in mind, though, that they don't like to have to repeat what was taught in lecture. You must approach them having demonstrated your efforts to understand the material. I never had a bad experience meeting with a professor during his/her office hours using this approach. The Department of Public Safety at Marquette is a well staffed, hard working, private security force at Marquette. They rarely get the thanks they deserve for all that they do to keep the students and faculty at Marqutte safe. The neighborhood right around Marquette is not a place anyone should be alone after dark. Most of the stories you hear regarding robberies, assaults, etc, involve people walking home or to their car alone after dark. Marquette has escorts and shuttle vans that operate to ensure students and faculty can travel around campus safely. Please, utilize the safety programs available and thank the employees and students in the Department of Public Safety when you see them. They work hard to keep you safe.Your experience at Marquette will be what you make of it. I will always be proud to have graduated from Marquette. While I have moved to California, people know Marquette and the caliber of people that are alumni. (Look at Doc Rivers!) I have never met someone that discussed Marquette University in a negative light, even on the West Coast where the big engineering schools like UCSD and Poly Tech reign.
