Major: Art & Design Department (This Major's Salary over time)
I wasted a lot of time and money at this school. I was interested in the textiles department, and was excited to find a school closeby that offered the program. Many of the classes are led by graduate students, not real teachers who are too busy working on their graduate projects to even give you one on one attention (which is needed in any art class). In my fabric class I was eager to learn new techniques but instead learned how to "tie-dye". I could have taught that myself. The school is more focused on general studies, of the five classes I was taking only 2 were related to art. After struggling to keep up with the other non-art related classes I barely had time to focus on my art, which was the reason I was in school there. When I needed assistance with anything (lockers, signing up for classes, parking etc.) the faculty was of no help, and didn't seem to care. By the way, who's great idea was it to put the art building the farthest away from the parking lot? Lugging all of my massive supplies (without a locker since there are only 1/4 the amount offered than of students that are there) was a pain as well. Overall it was a waste of time and money. Huge dissapointment, my community college classes blew SIUE away. I would recommend looking elsewhere if you are interested in art!
