NYU was always my dream school. I wanted to come here more then anything—it was always at the top of my list. Needless to say, when I got in I was overjoyed. However, upon arriving to the school and actually living here I must say that I am thoroughly disappointed in the quality of my education and the social environment that NYU has.

I'll start off with academics. While I don't think the academics are a complete joke, I do think that they are severely lacking for the tuition I am paying. Professors are extremely self absorbed and tend to assign a huge volume of pointless busy work, which really doesn't help anyone learn anything. I could be getting a much better education at a different school, maybe even a state school.

Now onto the good stuff: social life and party scene. Your social life freshmen year really is entirely dependent on who you live with. You social circle will be determined by your hall. After cliques are established they are literally impossible to penetrate. No one makes any effort to talk to each other and no one has any interest in making new friends once they have found their "group". The odds are stacked against you in terms of having a good hall too..a lot of different personalities are attracted to NYU and there can be a lot of conflict with living situations.

The party scene is okay. After welcome week nearly all of the good parties evaporate. You can definitely drink and go out when you want to, but it takes a lot of searching to figure out what to do. Everyone runs off in different directions. You will spend many nights either alone in your room or hanging out with some sketchy club promoter at a lame party with a group of people. The clubbing scene definitely gets old—I personally hate it. It's hard to get into bars, and there are absolutely no house parties.

Guys tend to think that girls here are easy to talk to and that they will get laid a lot..wrong! Girls here are so stuck up their own asses its not even funny. Most are pretentious and incredibly snobby. As some other guy siad, they date older men and flock to the few hot guys which leaves us average ones with nothing!

Avoid this school at all costs. I have been more depressed here then I have my entire life. Some people like it I guess, but I don't understand why. I think that most people here are in serious denial and try to convince themselves everyday that they like it, but almost no one is 100% happy and it shows. I seriously wouldn't recommend this school to anyone.
