Not only was my experience at JU terribly disheartening but it was also outrageously expensive. I transferred from a private school out of state when my family relocated to Florida. The school I went to in California (the one I consider my true al ma mater) was wonderful and I expected the same things from another private school. Unfortunately I didn't have a lot of time to do research before I moved. I ended up being stuck in a catch-22 after only my first semester there. I was promised when I enrolled that my financial aid package from my FAFSA would be accepted no problem but later found out that if I could not pay JU $11,000 for my first semester that I could not attend the next semester and if I did not attend that they could not back-date my financial aid. So now, I have 0 credits from JU and am getting calls from a collection agency on behalf of JU. I have spoken to other students that were forced into the same financial bludgeoning as I was, some whose parents were able to bail them out and others who, like me, had to postpone their education because of it. JU, as a private university, is run like a business and not like an educational institution. All they care about is the bottom dollar. They are going bankrupt and laying off staff and faculty every month. The campus is dirty and unsafe as it is in the worst area of Jacksonville. The student population is practically illiterate and all they care about it partying and drinking games. There are so many fraternities that there is no room for individualism. DO NOT go to JU. You will hate it and you will be sorry. If you must attend a school in Jacksonville, go to UNF. Don't put yourself and your bank account through hell so a sub-par education.
