Sacred Heart was not my first choice. Too be honest it was a last resort due to my high school's incompetent guidance department. However, I have chosen to make the best of my time here at SHU. Despite its many pitfalls, I have managed to succeed and find a satisfying level of happiness here.

Positives:

Despite ambivalent feelings towards the SHU administration, the administration really tries to go above and beyond for its students. There is much concern for the happiness of the students and the ability to create a "normal" college environment, which also allows for successful academics.

There is an abundance of ways for students to get involved and get connected with the campus community. Whether it be clubs, events, teams, varsity sports, or music there is ALWAYS something going on inside the campus. The happiest students here are the ones who got involved very early on and made friends from the get-go (like myself). There are new clubs and teams created every semester. SHU is also going national with its Greek Life which will hopefully be much more stimulating for us.

The campus is continuing to expand each year and the different departments are gaining much more recognition. I study in the Business School which has gained much more recognition in recent years, which benefits my education. Classes are small, and professors are very helpful. Profs are easily accessible.

The Page is ALWAYS fun and is usually a typical spot on Saturday nights.

During the spring we always go to the Fairfield beach.

Negatives:

  • Without a fake ID there is nothing to do drinking wise. This is without a doubt a bar/club school, and an ID is necessary. Thank God I had one from HS that was easy to use freshman year.
  • The campus is very small and very crowded. You can literally walk the entire campus in under 15 minutes. This makes the student body very close, but also creates high school style drama and gossip. It feels more like a childish boarding school than a college.
  • Bridgeport/Fairfield PD have begun to seriously crack down on underage drinking and fake ids. So many of my friends have been arrested and ticketed. The few house parties that do go on are broken up by 11pm and the owners are ticketed. This makes it very difficult to have a normal college social life. Many students go to NEw Haven via the club buses, but police have caught on to that as well. Many believe this is the administrations doing, but its really just police crackdowns. This has severely damaged the social life, and makes small dorm parties much more common this semester.
  • SHU IS NOT IN FAIRFIELD. SHU IS THE DEPTHS OF BRIDGEPORT, WHERE IF ALONE AT NIGHT YOU WILL GET MUGGED, RAPED, SHOT, STABBED, OR ALL OF THE ABOVE. PLEASE NEVER GO INTO BRIDGEPORT ALONE OR WALK AROUND DRUNK. I HAVE PRESSED MY LUCK MANY TIMES, AND IT IS NOT FUN.
  • GUIDOS are EVERYWHERE. People from Long Island infest this college. It is very hard to meet anyone from any other areas.
  • The majority of people in your classes are brain dead. You will think that you are smarter than average, when in reality you have a pulse which is a step up from most of the students admitted here.
  • SUMMATION:

All in all I am happy here at SHU. This is only because I am very involved and very comfortable with my friends. However, the social scene is very depressing and I cannot enjoy myself very often. If I get drunk once a week thats usually a lot. Please read this review and take it for what its worth. This is as honest and true as it gets.

questionI'm concerned about your experience in Bridgeport. Is the area across the street where the upperclassmen live this horrible with shooting rape and stabbings. Why aren't the students ever warned not to leave campus?

responseRows=6 cols=34 wrap=virtual Sounds like you must be an IRISH drunk. Attacking the Guidos, and all you are concerned with is the drinking scene.
