I'm a freshman at UIUC right now, and after the first semester, I feel I have a pretty good idea of the place.I LOVE it. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE it. When I was moving in, I felt nervous that it would be too big, and that I would never make any friends. The size was simply overwhelming. On the day before classes, all of the student organizations came out onto the main quad, and everyone had the opportunity to sign up for some organizations. I joined a water ski group, and made countless friends from this experience. The professors were always telling us freshman who were freak out about how big the university is to "make it smaller," and that was so easy once I got involved. The classes here are hard, and the math classes go super fast. My classes range from six to 700 students, and the large classes are taught by TA's who know virtually no english. This is quite irritating to me. UIUC is definitely a party school. It's impossible to go out for a walk on Friday evening and not see people in the streets drinking. As a result, I have notices a large presence of vomit on campus that NEVER gets cleaned up. Someone got drunk and vomited in the stairwell in my dormitory, and it was not cleaned up for nearly three weeks. The campus is not well maintained, to say the least.Shampoo-Banana is a pretty good college town. I have not gotten in the town much, since I've been drawn to a lot of frat parties. Finding a job is HARD, if not impossible.I recommend this school to anyone who's looking for the traditional college experience. It's a great place to be, and I can't wait for 2nd semester to start.
